First, when performing grease injection on a stop valve, the issue of the grease injection volume is often overlooked. After the grease injection is completed, the operator selects the valve and the connection method for the grease injection, and then proceeds with the grease injection operation. There are two situations: On the one hand, the injection volume is small and insufficient, causing the sealing surface to wear out more rapidly due to the lack of lubricant. On the other hand, the injection volume is excessive, resulting in waste. It is not based on the type of the valve to precisely calculate the sealing capacity of different stop valves. The sealing capacity can be calculated based on the size and category of the stop valve, and then an appropriate amount of grease can be injected reasonably.
Secondly, when filling the valve with grease, the issue of pressure is often overlooked. During the grease filling operation, the grease pressure fluctuates regularly with peaks and troughs. If the pressure is too low, the seal will leak or fail; if the pressure is too high, the grease filling port will get clogged, the grease inside the seal will harden, or the sealing ring will get stuck with the valve ball and valve plate. Usually, when the grease filling pressure is too low, the injected lubricating grease mostly flows to the bottom of the valve chamber, which often occurs in small gate valves. While if the grease filling pressure is too high, one should check the grease filling port. If it is a blocked grease hole, determine the situation and replace it; otherwise, if the grease hardens, use cleaning liquid to repeatedly soften the failed seal grease and inject new lubricating grease for replacement. In addition, the type and material of the seal also affect the grease filling pressure. Different sealing forms have different grease filling pressures. Generally, the grease filling pressure for hard seals is higher than that for soft seals. When maintaining ball valves, they are usually in the open position, but in special cases, they can be maintained in the closed position. Other valves cannot be treated uniformly as being in the open position. When maintaining gate valves, they must be in the closed position to ensure that the lubricating grease fills the sealing groove along the sealing ring. If in the open position, the lubricating grease will directly fall into the flow channel or valve chamber, resulting in waste.
